Food Industry Applications

- Dissolution: First, slowly add sodium alginate to water while stirring. The water temperature is generally controlled at 50-60℃ to accelerate dissolution. The stirring time depends on the concentration and amount of sodium alginate, typically requiring 30 minutes to 1 hour until completely dissolved and a homogeneous solution is formed.

- Gel Formation: If gel formation is required, add an appropriate amount of calcium salt solution, such as calcium chloride solution, to the dissolved sodium alginate solution. The amount of calcium salt needs to be adjusted according to the desired gel strength and hardness. In food preparation, the sodium alginate solution is generally mixed evenly with other raw materials first, and then the calcium salt solution is added. The mixture is then stirred or allowed to stand to form a gel.

Pharmaceutical Applications

- Drug Carrier Preparation: Mix the drug with the sodium alginate solution and use methods such as emulsification and spray drying to prepare microspheres or microcapsules. During preparation, it is necessary to control factors such as the ratio of drug to sodium alginate, the type and amount of emulsifier, etc., to ensure the encapsulation rate and release performance of the drug.

- Use of wound dressings: Apply the sodium alginate wound dressing directly to the wound. Change the dressing regularly according to the size of the wound and the amount of exudation. Before use, the wound needs to be cleaned and disinfected to prevent infection.

Use methods in the textile printing and dyeing field

- Preparation of printing paste: Mix sodium alginate and water in a certain ratio, add appropriate auxiliaries such as thickeners and preservatives, and stir evenly to prepare a printing paste. The concentration of the printing paste needs to be adjusted according to the printing process and the type of fabric.

- Printing process: Apply the prepared printing paste to the fabric through printing equipment, and then perform post-processing steps such as drying and color fixing. During the printing process, it is necessary to control parameters such as printing pressure, speed, and temperature to ensure printing quality.

In summary, sodium alginate plays an important role in many fields due to its unique properties and functions. Understanding its uses and methods of use will allow us to better leverage its advantages and provide strong support for the development of various industries.
