Chemical Properties Of Tert-butylphenol
1) Acidicity of phenolic hydroxyl groups: Exhibits the general characteristics of phenolic compounds. As a weak acid, it can react with bases to form salts (phenolate anions).
2) Electrophilic substitution reaction: Due to the tert-butyl group being a strong electron-donating group, it increases the electron density of the benzene ring (especially at the ortho position relative to the hydroxyl group), making it more reactive in electrophilic substitution reactions (such as alkylation, condensation) than phenol itself.

A. Plastics Industry
1) Phenolic Resin Modifier: This is its most traditional application method. Adding it to the synthesis process of phenolic resin can enhance the oil solubility and flexibility of the resin. It can also reduce the brittleness of the resin and improve its processing performance.
2.) Tert-butylphenol is used in the production of special varnishes, insulating coatings and laminated materials.
3) Synthesis of tert-butylphenol-based resins: By directly reacting with formaldehyde, a class of important oil-soluble phenolic resins can be produced. These resins are mainly used in: rubber vulcanization agents (especially suitable for butyl rubber and natural rubber), with excellent heat resistance and aging resistance.
